Jose Enrique names the signings Newcastle still need to make

Newcastle United have been busy this summer.

Despite FFP constraints, Eddie Howe has been able to bring three first-team players in as Newcastle prepare for a season back in the Champions League.

Still, such is the insatiable nature of the transfer window, there’s always the push for more.

Howe’s side have been linked with moves for the likes of Joachim Andersen and Kieran Tierney in a bid to bolster the defence.

Nicolo Zaniolo, meanwhile, has been touted as an attacking target.

Now, former Toon defender Jose Enrique has given his verdict on what the club need.

Indeed, Enrique is never shy of giving his opinion.

Taking to his Instagram story, the Spaniard wrote: “Now they need to sign a top left back as well, right winger, who is left-footed to play there on the right to fight with Almiron for a starting spot and maybe two more.

“They will have another top season.”

Defence has to be the priority

In an ideal world, Newcastle would be able to bolster more than their defence during what remains of the window.

Still, given the FFP situation, that feels unlikely at this stage even despite PIF‘s millions.

With that in mind, either a central defender or a left-back would be a logical addition.

Howe, after all, was reportedly planning to turn Dan Burn back into a central defender were he to sign Tierney.

If that cannot be done, another central defender might be wise. Fabian Schar is currently suffering with a slight injury and the options behind him don’t look particularly convincing.

Considering the defence was Newcastle’s strong point last season, investment made to protect that would be wise.
