Newcastle United are in the market for a left-back this summer, with Kieran Tierney at the top of the club’s list of targets.

Tierney‘s Arsenal future appears to be in doubt, and Newcastle are seemingly ready to swoop in and rescue him from the Emirates.

The 25-year-old is currently on the fringes under Mikel Arteta, and it has been claimed that he is open to joining Eddie Howe’s side. It has also been claimed that he wants to join a team that is playing in Europe, which Newcastle should be doing next season.

The £25million man looks like he could be on the move at the end of the season, and a transfer to Tyneside could spark a change for a current Magpie.

Kieran Tierney arriving at Newcastle would allow Dan Burn to change positions

The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle want to sign a left-back so that Dan Burn can change positions.

He joined the club in January 2022, arriving from Brighton for £13million as a centre-back. He formed a brilliant partnership with Fabian Schar and played an important role in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League.

But Burn has had a different role this season, and has spent the majority of the campaign at left-back. He was done extraordinarily well despite playing in an unorthodox position.

However, the Northern Echo state that a new left-back arriving would allow him to play centrally once more. That would likely resign him to a place on the bench where he would act as Sven Botman’s deputy.

It would also mean that Matt Targett is the reserve left-back, whether that is behind Tierney or someone else. There have been various other players linked with joining Eddie Howe’s side. There has been talk of renewed interest in Renan Lodi, while Mitchel Bakker is also back on the Magpies’ radar.
