Newcastle think club will lower asking price for £40m ‘outstanding’ target this summer

Newcastle United are once again playing hardball in the transfer market by refusing to accept the “Newcastle tax” put upon players’ valuations especially by Premier League rivals with Crystal Palace the latest club to do so with Joachim Andersen.

Ever since Newcastle were taken over by the PIF there’s been a label of “World’s richest club” attached to them, regardless of the veracity of the claims. Newcastle may have the richest backers in world football, but that doesn’t automatically make us the richest club, especially thanks to Financial Fair Play regulations – we have to earn what we spend like every other side.

That still hasn’t deterred other teams from applying what has been dubbed the “Newcastle tax” to player valuations when the Magpies come knocking with a proposal.

Newcastle will not be bullied into paying the “Newcastle Tax”

Nearly every side we’ve tried to deal with in the transfer market has added a bit more on to a player’s value and tried to shake Newcastle down for more money, and now Crystal Palace are doing the same over Joachim Andersen, but Football Transfers believe Palace may back down.

Newcastle are very keen on the ‘outstanding‘ Danish international defender and see him as a direct replacement for Fabian Schar who is still fifty-fifty to be fully fit for this weekend which is an extremely timely reminder that we need a deputy for the Swiss international.

Andersen has a very similar play style to Schar and also has a similar rocket of a right foot, but Andersen is five years Schar’s junior meaning there’s still plenty more to come.

Palace are currently standing firm on their £40million valuation of the player they got for just £17.5million from Bruno Guimaraes‘ old haunt, Lyon. However, the report on Football Transfers suggests that Newcastle are confident they can bring Palace down on the price if they wait them out, but reveals they are also prepared to move on to other targets.

Newcastle will undoubtedly have a Plan B but we don’t know who yet

A lot of Newcastle fans are quite excited by the Andersen links, and given his similarities to Schar it’s easy to see why.

He seems to be the priority defender at the moment, but it just wouldn’t be Newcastle if they weren’t prepared with another player lined up if this move doesn’t work out. Quite who that is right now remains to be seen.

Obviously Newcastle won’t get another player in before Saturday’s game against Aston Villa, we’ve seen how long it takes us to get a signing over the line these days, but there’s still plenty of time left in the window for some positive movement.
