The Newcastle United players are officially welcoming Anthony Elanga to St James’ Park.

The Magpies have finally made their first major signing in two years, with Anthony Elanga joining Newcastle United.

Elanga could cost Newcastle £60million in total, making him one of the club’s most expensive signings ever. The hope will be that he proves to be money well spent, with Elanga seen as the ‘perfect’ Eddie Howe player.

The 23-year-old will now link up with his new teammates, as Newcastle United begin pre-season ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Will Osula, Joelinton and more send messages to Anthony Elanga after signing for Newcastle United

Following the announcement of his addition to the Newcastle United squad, members of the Toon dressing room have been welcoming Elanga to the club on social media.

The latest Toon recruit has posted a message on his official Instagram account, writing: “I’m a Geordie now! Happy to be here at this great club but more importantly I’m ready. Can’t wait to see you all. Let’s get to work!”

Elanga has been met with multiple replies from his new teammates, including his close friend Will Osula.

The young striker replied: “Let’s go my broskiii. Lalalalala !!!!”

There was also a response from Joelinton, who posted: “Welcome to the family bro.”

That sentiment was shared by Joe Willock, who added: “Welcome brother.”

“Finally, let’s go Elly,” commented Jacob Murphy.

There have also been replies from Fabian Schar and Harrison Ashby, while Elanga has also received messages of support from Aston Villa stars Morgan Rogers and Amadou Onana.

Eddie Howe has also welcomed Elanga to the club, with the Newcastle United manager ‘delighted’ with his new signing.

Which Newcastle United players have played with Anthony Elanga before

There are actually four players at Newcastle United who have played alongside Elanga in the past.

The most obvious one is Alexander Isak, who represents Sweden alongside Elanga. They are consistent starters for their national team.

At international level, Elanga has also been teammates with Emil Krafth. The 30-year-old defender has won 50 Sweden caps so far in his career.

Domestically, the last Newcastle United player who Elanga was teammates with was Odysseas Vlachodimos. They joined Nottingham Forest during the same summer, spending a year in the same dressing room before the goalkeeper’s controversial move to Newcastle.

The most surprising Newcastle United player who has previously played alongside Elanga is Martin Dubravka. That came when the Slovakian spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Manchester United.

They have been reunited at St James’ Park, but potentially not for much longer. That is because Dubravka is likely to leave Newcastle if James Trafford joins the club.
