Jacob Murphy sends clear message to Eddie Howe as Newcastle United plot new signing

Jacob Murphy is not a worried man ahead of an important transfer window for Newcastle United.

The Magpies are hoping to be very active. Newcastle United want at least three new signings, and could bring more in depending on their budget.

It is reported that Newcastle could have £150million to spend, and that sum could increase through player sales.

Eddie Howe is hoping that budget will fund the arrival of a new right winger, with Newcastle interested in Bryan Mbeumo.

Whoever arrives will compete with Jacob Murphy, who has not had anyone to challenge him for that position since Miguel Almiron’s January exit.

Jacob Murphy’s verdict on Newcastle United possibly signing another winger

Despite the possibility of losing his position in the starting XI, Murphy has absolutely zero concerns over a new winger joining the Newcastle United squad.

During an interview with the Athletic, Murphy welcomed the prospect of more competition on the right of attack.

“I’ve proved I can contribute to a successful team,” he said.

“Whatever happens in the summer in terms of incomings, I see that as more competition. It will be someone I can work off, share the load with.

“I won’t stop working hard to achieve success here.”

Who Newcastle United could sign to play on the right wing

The 30-year-old is right to welcome the competition. It should only push him to become even greater, which is a tantalising prospect given how good he has been.

Murphy has enjoyed a spectacular season, scoring nine goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions. To get more than 20 goal contributions is remarkable, and it sets the bar extremely high for whoever comes in to try and replace Murphy.

As it stands, the leading candidate to arrive at St James’ Park is Mbeumo.

Thomas Frank is unsure if Mbeumo will remain at Brentford, with the Bees willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old.

However, Newcastle are not the only club chasing his signature. Manchester United want Mbeumo too.

In terms of other targets, Newcastle have been linked with PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko. However, it was recently reported that Newcastle have concerns about signing Bakayoko.

The Magpies’ interest has waned, just like it has for Tyler Dibling. He looked like he would be a top target heading into the summer, but that appears to have changed.

Newcastle are not as interested in Dibling anymore, while it has been suggested that his long-term position will be attacking midfield rather than out wide.
