Thomas Frank has given an interesting response when asked about Newcastle United transfer target Bryan Mbeumo remaining at Brentford.

The 25-year-old is attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer transfer window, having enjoyed the best season of his career.

He has got 28 goal contributions in all competitions, with Gary Neville describing Mbeumo as ‘special’.

The Cameroon international is a special player who Eddie Howe would love to have at St James’ Park. Newcastle are interested in Mbeumo, as they prepare to sign a right winger.

Mbeumo would be a dream addition to a Newcastle United squad that desperately needs extra depth in attack.

Thomas Frank comments on Bryan Mbeumo’s Brentford future

With the summer transfer window edging closer, Newcastle United fans will be very interested in what Brentford manager Thomas Frank said on Tuesday about Mbeumo’s future.

Frank spoke to Sky Sports News at the Bees’ end of the season awards, with Mbeumo claiming the honour of goal of the season for his volley against Tottenham Hotspur.

“He’s [Mbeumo] played fantastic,” Frank said.

“It’s been a privilege to work with him for six years and see his development from a teenager to a more grown up man in many ways. That personal development is equally as important.

“Always knew he was a goalscorer. Now he is a more consistent goalscorer. His hold up play is even better. His link-up play, his work ethic… fantastic. Very impressed.

Frank was then asked if Mbeumo will be a Brentford player next season.

“Let’s see,” he said.

“We all love him. I watch him every day. He comes in with a big smile. He loves to be a Brentford player, but let’s see.”

How much Newcastle United can sign Bryan Mbeumo for

Frank has been fairly non-committal about Mbeumo’s Brentford future.

The door is firmly open for a transfer, with reports claiming that Brentford will listen to offers for Mbeumo.

There could be an opportunity for Newcastle United to strike a deal, but the possibility of him signing may depend on his price tag.

It has previously been claimed that Brentford want at least £60million for Mbeumo.

However, it has now been suggested that Newcastle can sign Mbeumo for around £54million.

That would still represent a huge chunk of the Magpies’ budget, but it is less than initially feared.

The attacker’s asking price may depend on the volume of interest. Brentford will hope they can spark a bidding war, with Manchester United also keen on Mbeumo.

However, it remains to be seen if they will be able to afford him. Man United are set to sign Matheus Cunha for £62.5million, while Liam Delap could move to Old Trafford for £30million.
