Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has a trademark celebration, and its best outing came after his screamer against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Magpies recorded one of their most famous wins ever earlier this season, beating PSG 4-1 in their first Champions League game at St James’ Park for 20 years.

It was an incredible night on Tyneside, capped off by a beautiful goal from Fabian Schar. The Swiss defender scored Newcastle’s fourth goal of the night with a curling long range effort, leading to incredible celebrations inside St James’ Park.

It was a remarkable strike, and it pretty much summed up what was a perfect night for the club.

After finding the back of the net, Schar ran towards the fans whilst doing his trademark celebration. You know the one – he pulls his hand to his ear and then does a circular motion. But on this occasion he was quickly mobbed by his teammates as they celebrated a famous victory.

Schar has admitted that the win over PSG is his best moment in a Newcastle shirt, and now the 32-year-old has provided details of a brilliant interaction he had with a fan the day after during an interview for NUFC TV.

“I remember scoring against Paris and the next day I was walking out of my house,” he said.

“And there was an older lady in a car and she was driving past me doing the celebration.

“That gave me a lot back, just to see what it is about in this city. I’m loving it here.”

Newcastle fans may get to see even more of Schar’s celebration after contract extension

During his Newcastle United career, Schar has scored 11 goals. A lot of them have been screamers, such as long range strikes against Burnley and Nottingham Forest.

The goal against PSG also falls into that category, and the occasion made it all the more emphatic.

It was a joy to see his trademark celebration that night, as he has endured some tough times during his Newcastle career.

But he is now playing his best ever football in black and white, and has just signed a contract extension until 2025.

Hopefully that means we are going to see Schar’s celebration on a few more occasions, which might lead to him seeing more and more fans copying him when he is out and about.
