Fabian Schar has now revealed what his favourite moment as a Newcastle United player is following the news that he is extending his stay on Tyneside by a year.

By the end of his contract, Schar will have been a Newcastle player for seven years and over his time here he’s endured some terrible lows and some brilliant highs.

In an interview with NUFCTV, Schar revealed how beating PSG 4-1 in the Champions League and scoring the final goal of the game in incredible fashion was his favourite memory as a player.

Schar has been one of Newcastle’s star defenders

In his first few seasons at the club, it was obvious that Schar was a very talented footballer but he perhaps wasn’t suited to the way that Newcastle traditionally played football over the last 15 years.

Rarely did the Magpies dominate possession in games and they often found themselves with their backs against the walls defending for their lives.

Although Schar is an absolute quality defender, his greatest ability was lost under the likes of Steve Bruce, but he has since shone under Eddie Howe and the Swiss international can now confidently say he is one of the bets centre-backs in the Premier League.

It’s difficult to think of a defender for Newcastle who was more confident on the ball and who can striker it sweeter than Schar. That goal against PSG just epitomise the type of player he is and what he brings to this team.

When asked about his favourite moment, Schar said: “It’s difficult to pick one moment. For me personally probably the game against Paris. Scoring that 4-1 goal was really special, a really special night.”

Schar still has a huge role to play for the Magpies

Though he has just signed a one-year extension taking his contract until 2025, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see him stay at Newcastle even beyond that given how important he’s proven to be.

Yes, the club will naturally look to replace him and find a suitable long-term partner for Sven Botman on the right side of the defence, but Schar still has so much to give this football club.

Because he’s never really relied on pace and his technical ability on the ball is so good, probably one of the best in the squad, he’s still a very handy tool to have as a backup central defender, despite the fact he will turn 33 this year.
