Ange Postecoglou is feeling the heat at Nottingham Forest, with his side up against Newcastle United next on Sunday.
It’s been a good week for Newcastle United, who bounced back from an agonising defeat to Arsenal to pick up their first Champions League win of the season on Wednesday, smashing Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0.
Nick Woltemade scored a genius flick and a much-improved Anthony Gordon bagged two penalties before Harvey Barnes rounded off the scoring.
There were also impressive performances from new signings Anthony Elanga and Malick Thiaw, which delighted Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are back at St. James’ Park this weekend and have the perfect chance to build momentum against a struggling Nottingham Forest side.
Things are going so badly at Forest that reports suggest Ange Postecoglou’s job is already under intense threat.

Ange Postecoglou facing the sack if Nottingham Forest lose to Newcastle United
Postecoglou was only hired by Forest following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo on September 9, but less than a month later and he is already under massive pressure.
Forest sit down in 17th in the Premier League table, with Postecoglou yet to pick up a win in any of his first six games in charge.
Nottingham Forest results under Ange Postecoglou
- Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest – Premier League
- Swansea City 3-2 Nottingham Forest – Carabao Cup
- Burnley 1-1 Nottingham Forest – Premier League
- Real Betis 2-2 Nottingham Forest – Europa League
- Nottingham Forest 0-1 Sunderland – Premier League
- Nottingham Forest 2-3 FC Midtjylland – Europa League
The Times reports that while Postecoglou will likely take charge of Sunday’s game, if Forest were to have another negative performance and result, the club will review ‘his position during the international break.’
Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Midtjylland was especially damaging, with fans at the City Ground already turning on the new manager.
The team were viciously booed, while anti-Postecoglou chants, such as ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’, were sung just 23 days on from the Australian taking the job.
Controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis is no stranger to sacking managers shortly after hiring them, with Carlos Corberan getting his P45 after 11 games in charge of Olympiacos in 2022.
With pressure mounting on the beleaguered Postecoglou, Newcastle could give a death blow to his seemingly ill-fated stint at Forest on Sunday.
Nottingham Forest injury news vs Newcastle United
Postecoglou isn’t helped by the fact that he will be without four important players for the game.
Star centre-back Murillo became the latest casualty when he was forced off just 28 minutes into the defeat to Midtjylland.
Aleks Zinchenko has also picked up a groin strain this week, while midfielder Douglas Luiz has suffered a knock and full-back Ola Aina is a long-term absentee.
Newcastle have their own issues, though, with Yoane Wissa suffering a setback in his recovery and Tino Livramento facing two months on the sidelines.
There is some good news, however, as Jacob Ramsey is set to return to action after an ankle problem.
