Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirmed an injury blow following his side’s Champions League win over Union Saint-Gilloise.

It was a perfect night for the Toon boss, with Newcastle winning 4-0 against USG to pick up their first Champions League victory of the season.

The Magpies were outstanding in Brussels, with Anthony Elanga winning player of the match.

There were strong performances all over the pitch in black and white. Sandro Tonali was excellent, while Newcastle’s attacking players finally stepped up after a slow start to the season.

Pretty much everything went right for Howe, who even had some positive injury news to deliver after the game.

Eddie Howe confirms how long Tino Livramento will be injured

Tino Livramento was stretchered off against Arsenal on Sunday, leading to fears that he was going to be out of action for multiple months.

However, that is not going to be the case, as Eddie Howe confirmed after Newcastle’s win over USG.

“Tino, we think will roughly be around six to eight weeks [out of action],” he said.

“Which is probably positive from where we were after the game, thinking it might be months.

“We’re probably looking not this international break but the next one he could be back, so certainly more positive than we initially feared.”

Newcastle United play eight times between now and the November international break. That includes two Champions League games, with the Magpies facing Benfica and Athletic Club at St James’ Park.

Should Livramento be out for the full eight weeks as opposed to six, he could miss more than eight games. However, everyone associated with Newcastle United will just be happy that the 22-year-old’s season is not over after Sunday’s worrying scene.

Eddie Howe addresses Yoane Wissa’s injury

Livramento is the latest player to join Newcastle United’s injury list. That list also includes Yoane Wissa, who is yet to make his Toon debut after arriving from Brentford for £55million.

There has been some confusion over Wissa’s return date, but Howe provided a bit more clarity after the Champions League victory over USG.

“I think we’re still on track for where we were, which is after this international break coming up,” he said.

“He hasn’t trained on the grass yet so we haven’t seen him as part of any team training. At the moment, that’s the schedule but we will wait and see.”

In Wissa’s absence, Woltemade netted his first Champions League goal on Wednesday night.

It was a deft flick from the 23-year-old, who cleverly diverted Sandro Tonali’s shot into the net to give Newcastle United the lead.

Woltemade is silencing the critics with his start to life in black and white, boasting three goals in six appearances.
