Ange Postecoglou holds Nottingham Forest review as he prepares for ‘difficult’ Newcastle United test

Ange Postecoglou is preparing to face a ‘difficult’ Newcastle United side as he searches for his first Nottingham Forest victory.

The Aussie is without a win in any of his first six games as Nottingham Forest manager, as he gets set to face a Toon side that suddenly has momentum.

Newcastle beat USG 4-0 on Wednesday night, with that Champions League victory giving Eddie Howe a huge boost after a stuttering start to the season.

The Magpies will be full of confidence heading into Sunday’s game, which is something Forest are lacking.

They lost to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday night, with some Forest fans making their voices heard to Postecoglou. There were chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’, but now Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement is preparing for a challenging trip to Tyneside.

Ange Postecoglou focusing on Newcastle United, not Europa League heartache

Ahead of Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou has addressed the media.

He was asked to reflect on his side’s Europa League loss to FC Midtjylland, but is focused on the future.

“It’s still pretty raw and fresh, but that is the reality of football,” he said.

“But we have got a game that we have got to prepare for [against Newcastle].

“You’ve got to review it [the loss to FC Midtjylland], we’ve had the review this morning. I gave my feedback to the players and it is really important now that we start preparing for a difficult game on Sunday.”

Three Nottingham Forest players set for Newcastle United return

As Postecoglou aims to turn the tide at Nottingham Forest, he will lean on three players who are very familiar with St James’ Park.

There are three Nottingham Forest players who used to play for Newcastle United, two of which moved directly from St James’ Park to the City Ground. They are Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood.

There will be plenty of eyes on the former, with Newcastle keen to re-sign Anderson in the future.

The third player is Matz Sels, who endured a torrid time at Newcastle United under Rafa Benitez. He has improved a lot since his time on Tyneside, and will aim to keep the Magpies’ exciting forward line of Nick Woltemade, Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga at bay.

This will be the first time that Elanga has faced Forest since his departure. The fixture comes at an interesting time, with Elanga enjoying his best Newcastle game ever in Wednesday night’s Champions League win over USG.
