It is fair to say that former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is not happy after Newcastle United’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
The Magpies were victorious against Man United to advance to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup, with Eddie Howe’s side producing an incredible display despite a makeshift XI.
Newcastle were able to get the job done, and they embarrassed Man United in their own stadium in the process.
It was a humiliating defeat for the Red Devils, as pressure mounts on Erik ten Hag. Toon fans told him that he would be getting sacked on Thursday morning, but that has not happened.
But it was another crushing defeat for Man United, and the entire night summed up how much has changed at both clubs.
Man United were once the biggest team in the land; they were a club to be feared. Meanwhile, Newcastle were a joke.
However, that is not the case. Man United appear to be on a constant decline, while the Magpies have gone from strength to strength since the change of ownership.
Amanda Staveley and co have transformed the club from top to bottom, and that has been helped by appointing key personnel behind the scenes.
One of those appointments was Dan Ashworth, who is Newcastle’s Sporting Director. He was at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, and actually met Gary Neville before a ball was kicked.

Gary Neville on his meeting with Dan Ashworth
After the game, Neville took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to talk about bumping into Ashworth before kickoff, which led to another rant about Man United’s downfall.
“On my way up to the gantry last night I bumped into Dan Ashworth,” he wrote.
“He transformed the FA’s structure, set Brighton up for this incredible period of success and has now built a strong foundation for the new owners at Newcastle.
“He’s competent, highly qualified and knows what he’s doing. Will work with his coach, recruitment team and other departments coherently and calmly.
“In the last two matches Manchester United have played two clubs that have installed proper football departments to support the team on the pitch and off it. The complete opposite of United. We haven’t got a sporting director!
“I used to travel up to Newcastle and feel sorry for their great fans when the energy and enthusiasm had been sapped from them under Mike Ashley. It was painful to see.
“Last night we saw the Theatre of Dreams turn into the Theatre of Nothing. Every single United fan bored and flat. On the pitch the players in shock, the performances woeful and a manager struggling in front of our eyes. We’ve seen it before, we know how it ends and we’ve had enough.”
Newcastle strike gold as Man United continue to stall
Appointing Dan Ashworth was a genius decision by the Newcastle owners. He arrived with a brilliant reputation, and has already proven why.
He has got the whole club pulling in the same direction, which is exactly what Man United aren’t doing.
They are a shambles, with ownership issues bleeding onto the pitch. It is crazy to see their demise when you look back at how dominant they once were.
There is so much wrong at that club that it is going to take a long time to repair.
Neville has admitted that he used to feel sorry for Newcastle back when Mike Ashley was in charge, but there will be no Toon tears over Man United’s plight.
They are on their way down, while we are on the up with Ashworth pulling the strings behind the scenes.
