Newcastle United got revenge on Wednesday night as they dumped Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils beat Eddie Howe’s side at Wembley last season, but were unable to lay a glove on Newcastle on this occasion.

The Magpies were sensational, winning 3-0 courtesy of goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock. There were some special strikes, as well as some special performances.

Tino Livramento was exceptional again in the Carabao Cup, getting his first assist for the club on his second ever Toon start. Elsewhere, Emil Krafth was brilliant on his first senior appearance since August last year after suffering a horrific knee injury.

Despite boasting a plethora of injuries, Newcastle were able to get the job done at Old Trafford in convincing fashion, embarrassing Manchester United in their own backyard.

It was a spectacular performance, and one that delighted Toon legend Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer hails ‘magnificent’ Newcastle after win vs Man United

Following Newcastle’s 3-0 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, Shearer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to react to the result.

He wrote: “Total domination from the Toon. Magnificent from start to finish from every single player. One team playing for the badge the other team a complete mess. TOON TOON.”

Domination from Newcastle as Eddie Howe’s side march on in the Carabao Cup

Shearer summed it up perfectly, as he so often does.

It was total dominance from Newcastle, who breezed through a game that looked very challenging before a ball was kicked.

But even without some of their star names, the Magpies eased to victory. They capitalised on the unhappy mood at Man United, and inflicted even more misery on the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s team were woeful, while Eddie Howe’s were wonderful. They have excelled in the Carabao Cup once again, and have now knocked both Manchester teams out this season.

It is an incredible achievement, as Toon fans begin to dream about another trip to Wembley. Perhaps this season we can go one further…
