BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey has made a big claim about Newcastle United’s ‘imminent‘ director of football Dan Ashworth.
On Monday morning, Brighton and Hove Albion confirmed that Ashworth would be leaving his role at the Amex Stadium for a similar job at another Premier League club.
After rumours of Toon interest last year, it’s no surprise that the club in question is seemingly Newcastle United.
The Athletic state that Ashworth is expected to arrive at St James’ Park, while the Telegraph claim that a formal announcement of his appointment is ‘imminent’.

This is incredibly exciting for the Magpies, who have been linked with some big behind the scenes names. The new Toon owners have ambitions to take the club to the top, and to do so they need the right people in place.
That’s why a director of football is so important – they will be in charge of leading the club’s vision, ensuring the right kind of players are brought to St James’ Park.
Ashworth is the ideal candidate, building an exciting team at Brighton as well as his impressive work with England and the FA.

Big things expected of Dan Ashworth at Newcastle
A lot of complimentary words have been written about Ashworth following the news he’s heading to Newcastle. Based on the feedback alone, it feels like Amanda Staveley and co are absolutely appointing the right man.
Presenter Jake Humphrey, who his often very positive about Newcastle, believes the club have made a ‘brilliant move’ by bringing him in. The former Bamzooki host claims that Ashworth will ‘transform’ the Magpies.
That’s the kind of impact we’re hoping he has, as he leads the club during a pivotal period. The early stages of the new ownership will dictate which direction the club goes in. A lot of that will be down to how Ashworth operates.
The 50-year-old will need to identify the right players, and dovetail well with manager Eddie Howe. Their relationship will be incredibly important.

Transforming Newcastle United is the new owners’ mission. They’ve already made great strides in such a short space of time. The club is already almost unrecognisable to the one Mike Ashley owned.
Off the pitch, things appear to be going very well. Now Howe needs to get it right on the pitch.
If he does, he could be in for a huge summer alongside the imminent director of football Ashworth.
