Eddie Howe liked what he saw from his Newcastle United side as they beat Wolves in the Premier League.

A comfortable 3-0 win at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening means Newcastle United are now on the brink of making club history.

Eddie Howe’s side have now won nine consecutive games across all competitions. Newcastle have never won 10 in a row which will be the aim when Bournemouth visit next Saturday.

Alexander Isak starred against Wolves, scoring either side of half-time to take his goal tally for the season up to 17. Isak has now broken Alan Shearer’s record of goals in consecutive games having scored in the past eight Premier League matches.

Alexander Isak will deservedly hog the headlines after scoring twice and assisting Anthony Gordon for the third. But after full-time, Newcastle fans raved about Sandro Tonali following the Italian’s midfield masterclass. Eddie Howe also reserved praise for the midfielder.

Eddie Howe praises ‘magnificent’ Sandro Tonali

Earlier this week, Paul Merson suggested Tonali could become a “global superstar” and his performance against Wolves suggests he is already pretty close.

The Italian controlled the match from deep and ended with an impressive 91 percent passing accuracy with 58 completed passes.

Following the full-time whistle, Howe praised Sandro Tonali for his ability to adapt to a new role.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Howe said: “I thought Sandro was magnificent today. We always ask our midfielders to do a different job depending on our opposition.

“Today, he had a deeper role off the ball and I thought he did absolutely brilliantly today.

“He followed it to the letter. He was putting out a lot of transition issues for us so I thought his individual performance was very strong.”

Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle ‘dream’ could come true

Just like the rest of the Newcastle fanbase, Tonali is “dreaming” about winning a trophy this year.

Thanks to his spectacular displays in midfield, that dream could come true. Newcastle have now climbed to fourth in the Premier League table and Alan Shearer refuses to rule the Magpies out of the title race.

Newcastle are also just 90 minutes away from reaching Wembley after building a two-goal advantage over Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

A 3-1 win over Bromley in the FA Cup means Newcastle are also through to the fourth round of that competition where they will next face League One leaders Birmingham City.

On current form, Newcastle look unstoppable.
