Callum Wilson hints he’s closing in on Newcastle return from injury

Callum Wilson appears to have hinted that he’s closer than ever to a return from injury.

The Newcastle striker has missed the entirety of 2022, sitting on the sidelines as the Magpies moved away from relegation danger.

Losing Wilson in December was a real blow, and looked like it could derail our survival bid. But we’ve coped without him, even if Chris Wood has struggled to find the net.

Eddie Howe has taken the Toon into the top half without his star striker, which is a real testament to the rest of the squad.

When Wilson suffered his injury, it was unclear how long he’d be out for. There was speculation that his season could be over, while there were also claims he could return in March. Then it was reported that April was penciled in for his comeback.

Of course, neither happened. It’s now May and we’re yet to see Wilson back in a black and white shirt. So with three games remaining, will we see Wilson before the season ends?

Callum Wilson’s cryptic Instagram post suggests he’s closing in on a return from injury

After missing Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat Liverpool on Saturday, Wilson has uploaded a video on his official Instagram page.

The video shows all six of the 30-year-old’s goals this season, including the overhead kick against Crystal Palace and the pivotal winner versus Burnley.

The post is captioned with two emojis – a fully charged battery and an hourglass. Now it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what Wilson is implying…

Hopefully we see him pictured in training this week ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Manchester City. While that game might still be too soon, it would be wonderful to see Wilson feature before the season comes to an end.

After the game at the Etihad, Newcastle welcome Arsenal to St James’ Park then end their campaign away to Burnley.
