Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson could be out for at least another month with a calf injury.
The number nine hasn’t featured since our final game of 2021, the 1-1 home draw against Manchester United.
Almost two weeks after the Man United game, the Magpies boss Eddie Howe confirmed that Wilson would be out for eight weeks.
The 29-year-old has missed three games in all competitions so far, but did travel to Saudi Arabia for the mid-season break.

However, he was clearly just there for the team bonding, as he did not play in the Al-Ittihad friendly. Wilson was at the game, donning crutches.
He had an interesting time in Saudi Arabia, getting a picture with Hollywood star Gerard Butler. But Toon fans will be more concerned about seeing him back on the pitch.
Newcastle hope Wilson will return from injury against Brighton

The Athletic reporter Chris Waugh gave an indication on when Wilson could return on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne.
“They’re hopeful he might be back for Brighton,” he said.
The Magpies take on Brighton at St James’ Park on March 5th. If Wilson does return in time to face Graham Potter’s side, he’ll have missed a grand total of seven games – six in the Premier League.
Newcastle have four big games before they entertain the Seagulls. They welcome Everton and Aston Villa to St James’ Park before trips to West Ham then Brentford.

The pressure will be on for Chris Wood to deliver in Wilson’s continued absence. Sadly, the £25million man has failed to score in his opening two appearances for the club.
Hopefully he breaks his duck sooner rather than later, because it could lead to a hot streak for the New Zealand international.
Wood is a very patchy goalscorer, capable of going on a really impressive run. He just needs one goal to get the ball rolling. If he can do that before Wilson is fit again, the club will have the luxury of being able to take their time with the former Bournemouth man.
