Newcastle United are closing in on a major contract extension behind the scenes, and it is largely thanks to Amanda Staveley.

It has recently been reported that Bruno Guimaraes is closing in on signing a new deal with Newcastle United.

The deal to keep Bruno at St James’ Park is pretty much done, and is expected to include a release clause. That will make Newcastle vulnerable, but will at least ensure that the Magpies get a huge amount of money if someone does decide to make a move for the midfielder.

It has been about a year since contract rumours started, and there was hope that a deal would be concluded over the summer.

That did not happen, and a new report has explained how Amanda Staveley‘s intervention now means that Bruno is going to sign a new contract with Newcastle.

Bruno Guimaraes set for new Newcastle contract after Amanda Staveley intervention

According to the Telegraph, Staveley is the one who helped break the deadlock between Newcastle and Bruno. They state that she personally intervened, and told the Brazilian exactly how important he is to the club.

It just shows how respected Staveley is by the players. The co-owner is hugely influential, and her words appear to be the reason why Bruno is now going to sign on the dotted line.

That is wonderful news, as Bruno is arguably our best player. He was outstanding against Brentford on Saturday, looking back to his best after a slow start to the season.

This is not the first time this year that Staveley has played a key role in negotiations. It was reported back in January that she was involved in the deal to bring Anthony Gordon to the club, at a time when Newcastle were struggling to agree a fee with Everton.

He is proving to be an excellent signing, making Staveley’s intervention even more important.

Now she has helped Bruno commit his future to the club, with an announcement hopefully not too far away.
