Amanda Staveley is now looking to help complete a deal for Newcastle United to sign Anthony Gordon.

That is according to Daily Mail reporter Dominic King, who has stated that the Toon co-owner is now involved in talks with Everton.

The clock is ticking for both teams to agree a deal. The January transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night, meaning that time is running out for Newcastle to get the forward they need.

Gordon is clearly the player they want, but will not overspend. That has always been the case since the change of ownership, with the Toon hierarchy refusing to be held to ransom despite their incredible wealth.

King reports that Newcastle made their first offer for Gordon on Thursday last week. They held a meeting with Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri in London.

More than a week later and a deal still has not been agreed, and one of the Magpies’ shareholders is now involved in discussions.

Hopefully Amanda Staveley can help bring Anthony Gordon to Newcastle

With Staveley now involved, hopefully a deal for Gordon is not too far away. She has played a key role in transfer discussions in the past, and her presence could mean that Newcastle are really trying to push for a deal.

The co-owner was pictured in Riyadh alongside husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Toon CEO Darren Eales on Thursday, which is where PIF are based and where Newcastle went for their warm-weather training camp last December.

Given Eales’ presence, it feels likely that they were there on official club business.

Newcastle’s decision makers have decided that Gordon is the man they want, and believe he could really thrive under Howe. The youngster is tenacious on the pitch in his pressing, and wants to be a difference maker in the final third. In the words of pundit Danny Murphy, that is a ‘phenomenal mix‘, and a key reason why he could be a success under the current Toon regime.

Dan Ashworth is a big fan of the 21-year-old, and is now getting a helping hand from Staveley in a bid to make him a Magpie.

The main sticking point has been the price, with Everton wanting £60million for Gordon. It was then lowered to £55million, which is still more than Newcastle are willing to pay.

However, the latest report from the Telegraph states that the Toffees will now consider a deal worth around £40million, which is much more palatable for the Magpies.
