Alan Shearer was full of praise for Nick Woltemade following Newcastle United’s win over Nottingham Forest.
Shearer has been impressed by Woltemade, who has now scored four goals in seven games since joining Newcastle United from Stuttgart.
The Germany international was largely starved of service throughout Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest but ended up scoring a late penalty.
Woltemade had a few half-chances throughout but did not let missing them get to his head. Indeed, it was from his pressure that Newcastle eventually won the late spot-kick, after Bruno Guimaraes had opened the scoring.
Watching on, Shearer delivered his quick-fire verdict.

Alan Shearer on Nick Woltemade’s penalty for Newcastle United
The Newcastle United legend was on punditry duty for the Premier League’s official coverage.
Quickly after the full-time whistle at St James’ Park, Shearer shared his view of Woltemade’s penalty.
The striker, after a long run-up, kept former Newcastle goalkeeper Matz Sels rooted to his spot.
Shearer told the Premier League’s official website: “Impressed to see him step up and take the penalty, and take it with such aplomb. Even if the goalkeeper had gone the same way, he wasn’t stopping that one right in the top of the net, and he could’ve had a couple more before that.”
The awkward conversation Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade may need to have soon
Anthony Gordon took both of Newcastle’s penalties against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League on Wednesday.
To the England international’s credit, he finished them very well.
Still, Woltemade wanted to take one of Newcastle’s penalties during the USG game but was eventually talked down.
Gordon is the more senior member in the Newcastle United squad and has done little to warrant being taken off such an important duty.
However, the manner in which Woltemade put that penalty away was mightily impressive and he will surely be pushing Gordon to become Newcastle’s main penalty-taker.
Whatever decision is made, it’s fair to say it’s a nice problem for Eddie Howe to have. Alexander Isak was the taker last season, but Newcastle have quickly replaced him on that front at least.
