Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Woltemade scored the goals as Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
A 2-0 win at St James’ Park rounded off a brilliant few days for Newcastle United, who beat Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League on Wednesday.
In truth, it was largely a flat display for much of the game. Newcastle started well but Forest grew back into it just before the break.
While Eddie Howe’s side denied their visitors much in the way of clear-cut chances, the hosts were hardly at their free-flowing best either.
Still, second-half goals from Guimaraes and Woltemade made sure Newcastle head into the international break full of confidence.
Here’s how Geordie Boot Boys rated the players in the Premier League win.

Nick Pope – 7
Wasn’t called into action an awful lot but as commanding as ever. A major reason why Newcastle have been getting back on track of late.
Kieran Trippier – 7
Another solid display from Trippier, who will be needed now that Tino Livramento is injured until October.
Spoke before the game about how fit he’s feeling and, having played three times in a week, is certainly proving that.
Malick Thiaw – 8
Brilliant when called upon. Looks at home in this Newcastle team and Fabian Schar surely faces a big battle to reclaim his starting berth now.
Sven Botman – 7
Less involved than Thiaw but, again, solid throughout.
Dan Burn – 7
Solid as ever but he does look a little shakier at left-back. That’s not really his fault but, with Lewis Hall and Livramento, it’s something to address over the break.
Sandro Tonali – 8
Was so close to another wonder goal in the second half from an impossible angle.
It’s hard to think of Tonali having a bad game for Newcastle and though the midfield weren’t brilliant in the first half, he was excellent after the break.
Bruno Guimaraes – 8
Wasn’t at his best in the first half but forced his opening goal by pressing Morgan Gibbs-White. He then struck a fine shot past Matz Sels in the Forest goal, before winning the penalty.
Joelinton – 7
Important as ever in bringing industry in the middle of the park. Still, he’ll need to show more in the way of technical quality if he’s to make an impact for Brazil over the international break.
Anthony Elanga – 6
Lively but wasteful. Elanga was coming off his best game for Newcastle against USG but failed to really build on that here.
Some nice touches but the end product was lacking.

Nick Woltemade – 7
Starved of service for much of the game but helped force the penalty by pressing what had seemed to be a lost cause.
If he meant to hit that penalty in the way he did, that was excellent.
Anthony Gordon – 7
Not quite as good as his display against USG a few days ago but did not put much of a foot wrong.
Subs:
Jacob Murphy – 6
Harvey Barnes – 7
Lewis Miley – N/A
William Osula – N/A
