Newcastle United were backed by an incredible away support at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, and Eddie Howe’s players certainly gave them something to celebrate.

The Magpies smashed Manchester United 3-0 to advance to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Howe was forced to name a makeshift team, but even that could not stop Newcastle from being victorious. So many fringe players excelled, including Emil Krafth who was playing for the first time since August 2022.

There was also a special performance from summer signing Tino Livramento, who took Kieran Trippier’s place at right-back. He is proving to be a Carabao Cup specialist, having excelled against Man City in the previous round.

He did it again against Man United, providing an incredible assist for Miguel Almiron to score Newcastle’s first goal of the night. That kicked off the party in the away end, as the travelling Toon Army sang their hearts out – and they even found time to mock Erik ten Hag.

After the game, the Newcastle players went over to the supporters to show their appreciation. Unsurprisingly, they were met with a wave of noise.

There were a lot of chants for Livramento, as the Toon Army bellowed out ‘Tino, Tino, Tino’ like they used to for Tino Asprilla.

And Newcastle striker Callum Wilson did his best to ensure that Livramento soaked it all up on the Old Trafford pitch.

According to the Chronicle, Wilson pushed the 20-year-old in front of the rest of the Toon players to make sure he was front and centre.

That is a touch of class from Wilson, who is one of Newcastle’s more senior players. He knows exactly what it is like to be idolised by the fans, and made sure that Livramento allowed himself to take it all in as the Toon Army showered him with love.

Newcastle supporters are already incredibly fond of Livramento despite barely playing, but it is obvious that we will be hearing cries of ‘Tino, Tino, Tino’ for a long, long time.
