After bagging his first goal for the club last night, Yoane Wissa has set out his intentions to achieve something very ‘special’ at Newcastle United this season.
It was a really positive night for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, with Lewis Miley’s late goal sending the Magpies through to the semi-finals.
Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍
There, they’ll face Man City over two legs. Newcastle are hoping to retain the trophy after last season’s historic triumph.
Yoane Wissa’s first goal for the club set them on their way to that important win at St. James’ Park last night, and the £55m man was clearly buzzing with his impact.

What Yoane Wissa said after Fulham win
Speaking to the press immediately after the game, Wissa explained how happy he was to get his goal and the result, but outlined one massive ambition he has for the rest of the season.
He said: “I was smiling when I came on the pitch. I did enjoy today, we had a lot of work to do. I’m happy we got the win today.
“It’s always special. I’ve been here and knew it was special. Now playing with the Newcastle shirt, it is different. I’m very happy today.
“Winning a cup is special. They did it last year when I wasn’t there, so now I want to do it.”
Fans were already buzzing with Wissa’s performance after last night. Now, if he can help fire them to another trophy, they’ll absolutely adore him.

What’s your early prediction? Are we set to return to Wembley?
Tough semi-final draw but you can't write us off in this competition 👀
Can Newcastle win the Carabao Cup again?
A tricky tie against Man City awaits Newcastle in the semi-finals, but as we’ve already seen this season, Newcastle can beat Pep Guardiola’s side.
The home tie at St. James’ Park will be so important for establishing some kind of advantage, but if Eddie Howe and co. can take a lead to the Etihad, you never know what can happen.
Crucially, that second leg is not until 2 February, 2026. By then, hopefully Newcastle’s injury crisis has cleared up a little and we’ll see the likes of Dan Burn and Lewis Hall back in action.
Either that, or Newcastle go out and buy the defensive cover they so desperately need, otherwise the game at City could be a disaster.
Still, Newcastle will be full of belief now. Winning the Carabao Cup last season was special. Taking it home again this season would be truly magical.
