The injuries are starting to pile up for Newcastle United just at the worst time.
Eddie Howe’s side face an intense schedule over the festive period and Newcastle United are currently without a raft of key players.
After beating Fulham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, Newcastle host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, before making the journey to Manchester United on Boxing Day.
Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍
They then play Burnley to sign off for 2025 at St James’ Park, before January brings the return of the FA Cup and the final two Champions League games of the first stage at least.
Howe needs as much of his squad available to him as possible, so here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news and return dates.
Tino Livramento
Tino Livramento was forced off injured against Fulham with what looked like a knee complaint.
Livramento’s injury is a major concern for Newcastle, who are lacking options at full-back as it is. The England international has already missed 10 games this season, and Howe’s side are much poorer for it.
Speaking after the Fulham game, Howe said of Livramento: “We don’t know how bad it is but it doesn’t look good. The fact he had to come off when he’s such an honest lad is a worrying sign for his participation against Chelsea.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall missed Newcastle’s win against Fulham with a minor hamstring injury.
It remains to be seen how long Hall is out but Howe did sound slightly more positive on him after the Fulham clash.
There is a chance, however, that he could play against Chelsea on Saturday.
“Lewis, we’re more positive on,” he said.
“He couldn’t play today because of tightness in his hamstring. But he has a chance for Chelsea.”
Potential return date: Saturday, 19 December, 2025 vs Chelsea
Dan Burn
Dan Burn would have been another option at left-back but the England defender suffered a gruesome injury against Sunderland.
Burn has broken a rib and punctured a lung and is expected to miss around four to six weeks of action.
Speaking before the Fulham match, Howe said: “It is a rib problem with an issue with his lungs so it will probably be about four to six weeks.”
Potential return date: January/February 2026
What did you think of Lewis Miley’s performance at right-back?
He might be needed there for a while now Tino is injured 😟
Sven Botman
Sven Botman is another absentee from the Newcastle United defence.
The Dutchman has consistently struggled to stay fit during his time at the club and is currently dealing with a back injury.
Sadly for Howe, the defender’s return date is unclear.
The Newcastle United manager said: “With Sven, we’re not entirely sure when he will return. He’s made good progress, but I don’t think he’s ready to play yet.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Nick Pope
Nick Pope was in reasonably poor form before suffering a groin injury, although stand-in Aaron Ramsdale hasn’t always impressed.
Though Pope hasn’t made a Newcastle United squad since making a mistake against Marseille in the Champions League last month, Howe has previously suggested the goalkeeper is the closest injured player to returning.

“We’ll have to wait and see” he said. “I think Nick is the closest of all the players who are currently out. But I’m not sure quite how he feels. We’ll have to see.”
Potential return date: December 2025/January 2026
Kieran Trippier
Kieran Trippier‘s hamstring injury looks set to rule him out until around the New Year.
Speaking about Trippier before the Fulham game, Howe said: “Their target date will sort of be around the New Year, we think.”
Potential return date: January 2026
Emil Krafth
Like Trippier, Emil Krafth isn’t expected to return until the New Year.
“Their target date will sort of be around the New Year, we think,” said Howe.
Potential return date: January 2026
William Osula
William Osula hasn’t played since suffering an ankle injury before Newcastle’s win over Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League last month.
His return date remains unclear, as does his long-term future at the club. Osula has been linked with a move from St James’, having almost left during the summer transfer window.
“We hope that he will be pain free, then we can build him up and he’ll be back pretty quickly,” said Howe in late November about the striker.
Potential return date: Unknown
