Bruno Guimaraes took to Instagram to release a statement after Newcastle United began to try and move forward after their dreadful defeat to Sunderland.
The fallout from Newcastle United’s loss to Sunderland is not likely to dissipate all too quickly.
Eddie Howe’s side were dreadful at the home of their greatest rivals and Guimaraes described Newcastle’s performance against Sunderland as a “mess.”
Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍
Perhaps surprisingly, Howe disagreed with Guimaraes, even though he did admit his team didn’t play well.
Such is the depth of the rivalry, the defeat at the Stadium of Light will sting for a while. In fact, the only way the players can make it up to supporters is to beat the Black Cats in March.
They did, however, make a good start to restoring order on Wednesday. A late Lewis Miley goal saw Newcastle beat Fulham 2-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Guimaraes is pleased that the team are at least starting to move on.

The Brazilian was one of the team’s star players in the win over the Cottagers.
Miley’s late header sealed a crucial victory for Howe’s side after Sasa Lukic had cancelled out Yoane Wissa’s opener at St James’ Park.
Newcastle were not brilliant but cup progress is all that matters. They will play Manchester City in the semi-finals and the skipper was pleased with the reaction to what happened on Sunday.
Taking to Instagram, Guimaraes captioned a post: “Another semifinal with this club! Happy to move forward and with the way we reacted after the weekend!
“On Saturday we already have another big challenge in the Premier League and we need to be ready. Howay the lads. @lewis_mileyy top Player.”
What did you think of Lewis Miley’s performance at right-back?
He might be needed there for a while now Tino is injured 😟
What the win over Fulham actually told us about Newcastle United
Fans could be forgiven for thinking that they’ve been here before. There have been so many false dawns this season, so it might be wise not to get too excited.
However, it was a decent enough reaction to the Sunderland game. That doesn’t mean it makes up for it, but Newcastle were much better here.

That alone is frustrating. If this game had been played at Craven Cottage, it’s hard to imagine Newcastle being quite as good.
Still, credit must be given where credit is due. Not every question was answered but Newcastle responded well to seeing their lead cut and probably should have scored more goals.
Wissa impressed Newcastle fans on his first start for the club, too, so that feels like a big boost.
Newcastle remain difficult to trust but they did stop their season from veering into a crisis.
