Why Newcastle United will be hoping Manchester United don’t win the Europa League

Newcastle United are just one of the clubs interested in a move for Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.

Dibling has been a rare shining light for Southampton during an otherwise miserable Premier League campaign, one to have seen them relegated in early April. Indeed, Newcastle United are believed to have taken note.

Newcastle have tracked Dibling for years and their interest is believed to remain strong.

The teenager has scored four goals while registering three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season, though that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Dibling has been tipped for a big future in football and to have been something of a standout in a dreadful Saints team cannot be easy, particularly for a 19-year-old.

Such is the level of excitement in the player, rival teams are also said to be keen.

One of those is Manchester United and a fresh update has now emerged.

Manchester United development over Newcastle United transfer target Tyler Dibling

Newcastle have scouted Dibling this season but are unlikely to have been alone in that.

According to ESPN, the Old Trafford giants are ready to move for the England U21 international, although their pursuit rests on the outcome of two games.

Ruben Amorim’s side will reportedly only look to sign Dibling if they are in the Champions League next season, meaning they will have to successfully navigate both the Europa League semi-final (over two legs against Athletic Bilbao) and the final, should they get there.

The report also adds that Southampton’s reported £100million valuation of Dibling could be wide of the mark.

Why did Tyler Dibling leave Chelsea?

The forward has actually left Southampton before.

Newcastle wanted to sign Dibling in 2022 but he eventually joined Chelsea, though returned to the south coast club reasonably quickly.

According to The Athletic, he struggled to adapt to new surroundings in west London, which is perhaps only natural for such a young player at the time.

Now, however, he looks destined to leave St Mary’s Stadium for a second time.

Newcastle will hope that all roads lead to St James’ Park
