Why Newcastle are unhappy with Alexander Isak’s agents right now

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been in the headlines of late.

Sadly, it’s got little to do with the goals he’s scoring, with Newcastle’s elite marksman struggling for form this season.

Fitness issues should of course be taken into account and Eddie Howe believes niggling injuries over the course of the campaign have robbed Isak of his very best thus far.

Still, what’s most being talked about right now is the player’s future at St James’ Park.

While the Sweden international is under contract until the summer of 2028, recent reports suggest his agents will look to secure a move away from Newcastle at the end of the season, should Howe’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Now, some further insight into Newcastle’s thoughts on the matter have emerged.

Indeed, according to The Daily Telegraph, Isak is on a wage of around £150k-per-week and any increase on that would be difficult for Newcastle on the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) front.

With that in mind, interested parties could feasibly offer the striker a big pay rise to move elsewhere, such are the size of the wages at the top of the game – particularly for a player of his quality.

The fact that information about a potential pay rise elsewhere was relayed to Isak by his agents is said to have annoyed people behind the scenes on Tyneside.

Still, the report does add that the club are relatively relaxed about his future as things stand.
