Whether Newcastle United will try to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen again after agent speaks out

Newcastle United opted against signing Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen on deadline day, choosing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa instead.

With the transfer window now over, fans can only hope that the Magpies’ six senior additions can do what is required of them and bring more success to Tyneside.

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Yoane Wissa, who made it clear he wanted to leave Brentford before the end of the transfer window. The 28-year-old has completed his medical on Tyneside after travelling to the North East on Sunday night, so it should now just be a case of an official announcement.

While Wissa is a quality addition, it looked like Jorgen Strand Larsen was going to leave Wolves for Newcastle, despite Wolves rejecting both of their approaches in August.

Strand Larsen politely asked to leave Wolves for Newcastle, but was met with resistance from the club’s ownership. The 25-year-old will now remain a Wolves player for the next few months at least, but Craig Hope has provided a suggestion on whether Newcastle will come back in for Strand Larsen.

Newcastle United unlikely to try and sign Jorgen Strand Larsen again

Newcastle wanted to sign a second striker after confirming their club record fee for Nick Woltemade. It was confirmed late on that Wissa has signed on a four-year deal from Brentford, leaving Strand Larsen to stay at the club he only joined in July.

Strand Larsen wanted the move to Newcastle, but Wolves were reluctant to sell the striker, who was a surprise success in the Premier League last season.

And now it appears that Newcastle will not try to sign Strand Larsen again, not for the immediate future at least.

It was confirmed Strand Larsen’s agent on Monday that his client would not be leaving the club. Hope has since claimed that he would be surprised if Newcastle went back in for him again.

Newcastle United have still had a great transfer window despite Jorgen Strand Larsen blow

Newcastle fans will look back at this transfer window with mixed emotions. The Alexander Isak transfer saga has undoubtedly taken centre stage throughout, with neither party coming out of it covered in glory.

However, fans can look back at the 2025 summer transfer window as one which could be the start of something special for the club. Six quality additions, including a new club record signing in Woltemade is great business.

Eddie Howe and his recruitment team have addressed several positions in need of new young stars, delivering the likes of Anthony Elanga and Malick Thiaw.

A lot of the attention in the early stages of the transfer window was on how Newcastle kept losing out on top players to other Premier League sides, but the final weeks proved that they are more than capable of attracting top starts from around Europe.

Newcastle also signed some promising young stars like Antonio Cordero and Seung-soo Park, with the latter already showing his quality.
