Lloyd Kelly’s transfer from Newcastle United to Juventus is now official.
The Magpies have opted to move Lloyd Kelly on, less than one year after arriving at St James’ Park on a free transfer.
Newcastle agreed a deal with Juventus for Kelly, with the Serie A giants signing him on loan. The move includes an obligation to buy for £20million in the summer.
That is a boost for the Magpies’ PSR position, although Eddie Howe is not happy about selling Kelly. That is an understandable stance, but the feeling is that this deal was too good to turn down.

What is next for Newcastle United after Lloyd Kelly departure
With Kelly now gone and Miguel Almiron sold, Newcastle have been relatively active during the January transfer window. However, it has only been in terms of outgoings.
Even with these deals, there has been no expectation for Newcastle United to make any signings.
But will there be more outgoings? According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, no.
Following the confirmation of Kelly’s Toon exit, Hope wrote on X: “Newcastle defender Lloyd Kelly completes a loan move to Juventus. Obligation to make permanent for £20m in the summer. That will conclude NUFC business for the January window.”
Newcastle United cannot afford to get any weaker
With Almiron and Kelly gone, Newcastle have left themselves very short. The club are taking a risk, but the belief is that it is a risk worth taking ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window.
Thankfully, that is the end of the Magpies’ transfer activity. New signings have never been on the horizon, but there has been speculation over more sales.
Matt Targett was linked with a move away, while Sean Longstaff attracted interest from Everton. They also could have left St James’ Park.
The only remaining question mark is Kieran Trippier. He is a target for Galatasaray, and Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Trippier wants to leave.
To complicate matters, the Trippier to Galatasaray transfer could still happen, as the Turkish window does not close for another week. In that sense, Newcastle could still feasibly get even weaker.
However, it would come as a major surprise if the Magpies agreed to sanction Trippier’s exit. As Hope says, this should be the end of Newcastle’s transfer business until the summer.
