Callum Wilson was true to his word for Newcastle United.
Despite being linked with a move away pretty much since the January transfer window, Wilson vowed that he would return to Newcastle for pre-season training.
That, indeed, has proven to be the case.
Even while the club were selling the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to raise money in order to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules, Wilson remained on the books.
While Newcastle were reportedly in talks to sell the England forward to clubs in Saudi Arabia, there has seemingly been little development on that.
Now he’s back at the training ground, it seems that could have some kind of impact on Newcastle’s transfer plans.
Hailed as a “monster” by Eddie Howe and someone the Newcastle manager has said he wants to keep, Wilson could actually allow the club to spend elsewhere this summer.

According to The Chronicle, Wilson’s return may take the pressure off trying to sign a striker this summer.
Though the club are looking to strengthen in all areas this summer, it is thought they could now prioritise their attempts to strengthen at right-winger instead, with Wilson potentially continuing to act as Alexander Isak’s back-up next season.

It certainly seems as if the pursuit of a striker has gone cold, even if the club’s hierarchy would reportedly like to sell Wilson this summer, albeit they have seemingly found it difficult to do so.
A move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin broke down due to cost and reports from GIVEMESPORT earlier this week suggested Newcastle would soon accelerate their attempts to strengthen at right-wing.
With Wilson potentially now staying, it seems the focus has shifted.
