How much Newcastle wanted to pay Everton for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as deal collapses

Newcastle United’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on hold after a transfer to Tyneside collapsed.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, and there was confidence that an agreement would be reached with Everton. On top of that, it was reported that Calvert-Lewin was keen on the move.

However, Newcastle pulled the plug due to Everton’s asking price. With the Toffees unwilling to lower their demands, the Magpies decided to take their business elsewhere. In turn, that ended Yankuba Minteh’s hopes of signing for Everton.

It had been reported by the Times that Everton were looking to receive around £37million for Calvert-Lewin, which was obviously too much for Newcastle. They were hoping to knock the price down, but that is not going to happen in the immediate future.

While a deal could be revived later in the summer, it is off for now.

Newcastle United valued Dominic Calvert-Lewin at £25m

Everton want stupid money for Calvert-Lewin, much like they did in 2022 when Newcastle first tried to buy him.

And it is stupid money that Newcastle are not willing to pay, with a new report detailing how much Toon officials think the England international is worth.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle United value Calvert-Lewin at around £25million.

That is £12million less than what Everton want for a player who is entering the final 12 months of his contract and could potentially leave on a free next summer.

Newcastle will wait to see if Everton lower their demands

That contract situation is why Newcastle do not value Calvert-Lewin as highly as Everton, and it is why they may go back in for the forward later this summer.

If Calvert-Lewin is not going to sign a new contract, which is not considered likely at this stage, then Everton really need to sell. In that respect, the ball is in Newcastle’s court.

In the meantime, the Magpies can look at other forward options, as they will need to get someone in if Callum Wilson leaves the club. It does not have to be Calvert-Lewin, but he is certainly a player who Eddie Howe likes and would love to work with at St James’ Park.

He might still get that opportunity, but only if Everton lower their asking price. However, it would be a surprise if they eventually decide that £25million is reasonable, even if that is all Newcastle think he is worth.
