It has been a quiet transfer window for Newcastle United.
As has been the case with the last few transfer windows at Newcastle, the club do not look likely to make a new signing.
Indeed, Newcastle will not replace Miguel Almiron during this transfer window, despite the fact Eddie Howe’s squad is now lighter following his move back to Atlanta United earlier this week.
Still, given the insatiable nature of the transfer window, deals keep being touted as a possibility.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is consistently linked with a move to St James’ Park.
Mbeumo is Newcastle’s dream transfer target, although the Bees naturally do not want to sell one of their best players halfway through a season.
However, fresh reports have now emerged.

What Newcastle plan to do next after making late dash to sign Bryan Mbeumo
According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle have tested Brentford’s resolve.
They claim Newcastle made a move to sign the Cameroon international, although that was quickly rejected by the west London side.
The report adds that Newcastle are expected to return this summer, with only a monster bid likely to tempt Brentford into selling during what remains of the transfer window.
It remains to be seen if the London club would be more willing to do a deal then.
Bryan Mbeumo compared to Newcastle United star Jacob Murphy
Mbeumo has been in fine form for Brentford this season.
In fact, Mbeumo impressed against Newcastle when the Bees smashed Howe’s side 4-2 back in December.
Jacob Murphy is starring for Newcastle right now but the Cameroon star certainly looks an upgrade.
While not to overlook Murphy’s excellent contribution this season, Mbeumo beats him in almost every attacking metric.
| Metric | Bryan Mbeumo | Jacob Murphy |
| Goals | 14 | 4 |
| Assists | 3 | 8 |
| Shots (per game) | 2 | 1.4 |
| Key passes (per game) | 1.9 | 1.4 |
| Dribbles (per game) | 1.3 | 0.6 |
He produces more in the way of shots, key passes and dribbles per game, while also scoring 14 goals in comparison to Murphy’s four.
If Newcastle can land Mbeumo, it’d really be a statement of intent.
