Anthony Gordon’s standing as potentially Newcastle United’s fastest player could be under threat if the club sign Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi.

Newcastle are considering a move for Adeyemi as a potential alternative for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.

Geordie Boot Boys understand Newcastle’s £45million bid for Elanga has been rejected by Forest, who value the player at upwards of £60million.

As such, German international Adeyemi is thought to have emerged on their radar.

Adeyemi wants to stay at Dortmund, although it remains to be seen if a genuine move from Newcastle would tempt him into leaving.

While the 23-year-old has a lot more to his game than purely speed, it’s one of the most notable aspects about him.

The player himself, after all, is confident he’s even faster than Usain Bolt.

Karim Adeyemi said he was faster than Usain Bolt

Bruno Guimaraes thinks Gordon is Newcastle’s quickest player, although the likes of William Osula and Alexander Isak have also been given that tag.

Gordon’s top speed was clocked at 36.68 km/h during a game against Burnley in September 2023.

Adeyemi, meanwhile, told Sky Sports he was confident he was faster than Usain Bolt, who still holds the world record in the 100-metre sprint at 9.58 seconds set in 2009.

Sky revealed in 2023 that the Dortmund forward had been clocked at 3.60 seconds over 30 metres. Bolt’s speed at 30 metres during his world record run was 3.78.

Talking about potentially being faster than Bolt, Adeyemi said: “Yes, I think so. I am very confident with that.”

Is Karim Adeyemi faster than Kylian Mbappe?

Real Madrid and France star Kylian Mbappe is widely regarded as one of the quickest players on the planet.

However, Adeyemi was actually tracked at a quicker speed than the superstar striker last year.

As revealed by UEFA’s official statistics, the German’s sprint was clocked at 36.3 km/h, beating Mbappe’s top speed by a narrow 0.2 km/h.

Adeyemi would be an exciting addition at Newcastle. That kind of raw speed would be difficult for any defender to deal with, while his 12 goals and nine assists in 38 games across all competitions last season point to a player capable of making a genuine difference in the final third.
