Newcastle United transfer target Dean Huijsen appears to be coping with all of the speculation over his future.
That is the view of Troy Deeney, who has praised Dean Huijsen after scoring in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday night.
The 20-year-old centre-back is set to be on the move this summer, with clubs queuing up to activate his £50million release clause – including Newcastle United.
Newcastle have spoken to Huijsen, as Eddie Howe aims to bring a new right-sided central defender to St James’ Park.

Troy Deeney impressed with Dean Huijsen
Signing Huijsen will be extremely difficult, with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested in the Spain international.
The elite are circling, yet Huijsen continues to play at an extremely high level.
That has impressed Troy Deeney, who has included the youngster in his Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport.
On Huijsen, Deeney said: “There’s a lot of talk about this young man – linking him with Real Madrid and Liverpool – but I think he’s just kept being solid and an eight out of 10 performer for a Bournemouth side who’ve been a little bit inconsistent. And the goal he scored was a lovely header.”
How Newcastle United feel about signing Dean Huijsen
Huijsen continues to let his football do the talking, despite the volume of noise that surrounds him.
That is a testament to his temperament, and he is certainly a player who Toon fans would love to see arrive at St James’ Park.
However, that currently feels very unlikely.
Newcastle are less interested in Huijsen as the summer transfer window looms, amid an acceptance that he is possibly eyeing a move elsewhere.
Rather than get involved in a drawn out transfer saga that may end in disappointment, the Magpies appear set to prioritise other targets.
In terms of alternative centre-backs, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle are interested in Marc Guehi.
He was Eddie Howe’s top target in 2024, and looks set to leave Crystal Palace this summer. They ideally need to cash in on the England international, with his contract at Selhurst Park due to expire in 2026.
That could present Newcastle with an ideal opportunity.
