As the season prepares to come to a close when the Champions League final takes place on Saturday, plenty of names linked with Newcastle United are going to be deciding their futures.

Indeed, Newcastle have been touted for a landing spot for so many players this summer that news of various decisions across the game will be coming in thick and fast.

Such is the nature of the proverbial silly season, not every star linked can make a move to St James’ Park.

Now, one fairly high-profile individual has revealed his next move.

Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been linked with a switch to St James’ Park.

With Eddie Howe’s side back in the Champions League next season, they were reportedly looking to make a move for the Turkish international in an effort to introduce more nous at the truly top level into the squad.

Previous reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato suggested the Magpies were keen to pay around £35m for the 29-year-old.

Calhanoglu, however, has provided a fresh update. Speaking to NTV (via Fabrizio Romano), the midfielder said: “I’m gonna stay and extend my contract at Inter. I’ve no intention to leave the club, I’m very happy here.”

Inter Milan and Newcastle could be busy this summer

While the Calhanoglu deal looks off the table, Inter and Newcastle look as if they could be busy working together this summer.

Inter star Marcelo Brozovic will reportedly be the subject of a bid from the Magpies after the Italian giants play the Champions League final on Saturday, while there could be Toon players on the agenda at San Siro.

Allan Saint-Maximin is said to have impressed their scouts during Newcastle’s win over Manchester United in April, while Loris Karius is thought to have also attracted their interest.
