Day by day, the Mike Ashley era at Newcastle United gets further away.

While that is unquestionably a good thing, the rapid-fire change of pace at Newcastle shows no signs of slowing down.

Indeed, though the new era is one full of excitement, there will be some slightly sad elements of leaving the past behind.

Take Allan Saint-Maximin for example.

The Frenchman has been perhaps the one previously key player not to have his career transformed by Eddie Howe and the end looks near.

On Monday, the winger posted an cryptic message looking back on his time at Newcastle amid links with a move away.

Over in Italy, there could be a home for him.

According to the Daily Mail, Inter Milan had scouts in attendance during Newcastle’s win over Manchester United in April and were left impressed by Saint-Maximin’s performance that day.

The £93k-per-week star recorded an assist that day for Joe Willock and those watching him are believed to have been pleased with what they saw.

Moving on could be best for all parties

While Saint-Maximin is certainly pleasing to watch on his day, it just hasn’t worked Howe.

Anthony Gordon arrived in January to increase competition for places on the right, while both Alexander Isak and Joelinton were largely preferred on the left-hand side of the attack.

Of the players not getting regular game time under Howe, Saint-Maximin looks the most sellable asset. If Newcastle are going to raise funds, as well as create space on the wage bill, a decision must be taken.

That would be a sad end to his time at the club after proving such a shining light under Steve Bruce. However, things move on and a switch to Champions League finalists Inter would hardly be a step down.
