Three players could still leave Newcastle even after the transfer window shuts

The Premier League transfer window is closed, but Newcastle United’s summer business might not be over.

The window slammed shut on Friday with no major signing, with Alan Shearer furious that Eddie Howe has not been backed with reinforcements.

However, there were attempts to strengthen Howe’s squad. A club record deal for Marc Guehi collapsed, while Newcastle offered a potential £50million to sign Anthony Elanga. That bid was rebuffed by Nottingham Forest, who retained the services of the Swedish winger.

While there is no chance of any incomings, there could still be outgoings at St James’ Park. Monday brought news that Miodrag Pivas has joined Willem II on loan, and the hope will be that he emulates Yankuba Minteh and thrives in the Eredivisie.

Journalist suggests Odysseas Vlachodimos could still leave Newcastle this summer

But there are three more players who could leave Newcastle United on loan, despite most major transfer windows closing on Friday.

That is according to the Athletic’s Chris Waugh, who has been asked what is happening with Odysseas Vlachodimos, Isaac Hayden and Garang Kuol during a Q&A.

Waugh stated that all three are available and that they could all be loaned out soon.

“There is a chance each will depart on loan, and all are available, but there is a possibility none of them do,” he said.

“With Vlachodimos and Hayden, their wages are an issue, so Newcastle would likely need to come to an agreement with any club taking them and probably subsidise most of their pay packets.

“With Kuol, it is curious he is yet to earn a loan move, but Mitchell’s late arrival cannot have helped, and Newcastle did not secure temporary moves for any of their young players until the final week of the UK window. Kuol is 19 years old and not close to playing for Newcastle’s first team, so he requires a loan to aid his development.”

Newcastle need to find homes for Vlachodimos and Isaac Hayden

On deadline day, it was speculated that Vlachodimos could join Anderlecht on loan. Had he departed, that may have opened the door for Newcastle to sign James Trafford.

In the end, Trafford remained at Burnley, but that should not stop the Greek stopper exiting.

After his £20million arrival, he has not featured in any of Newcastle’s opening four games. He needs to be loaned out, while the Belgian transfer window is still open until September 6th. Therefore, a move to Anderlecht is not totally out of the question.

As for Hayden, he is also in desperate need of a loan. He has two years left to run on his Toon contract, but has no future on Tyneside.

The midfielder has been available all summer, only for Hayden’s deadline day move to QPR to collapse.

Garang Kuol’s Newcastle situation is unclear

While Vlachodimos and Hayden are two senior players who do not have a future at Newcastle United and simply just need to go and play football, it is a different story with Garang Kuol.

He is still only 19-years-old, turning 20 later this month. The hope will be that he can achieve his potential in a Newcastle shirt, having arrived with a lot of fanfare from Central Coast Mariners.

But with Kuol nowhere near being ready for the first-team, he needs senior minutes. He needs a loan spell where he can be settled, play regularly and improve as a player. That is something he has not had so far, having endured temporary spells at Hearts and Volendam.

The situation regarding the young Aussie is unclear, as he was training with the first-team at the start of the summer.

However, Kuol then missed Newcastle’s trip to Japan with a knee injury.
