Newcastle United are set to unveil the signing of Will Osula from Sheffield United, almost a full week after rumours of his arrival emerged.

It has been quite a quick turnaround when it comes to Newcastle United and their interest in Will Osula.

The 21-year-old emerged as an option at the end of July, with Osula described as a genuine target for Newcastle.

A few days later and the deal was on, with Newcastle in advanced talks to sign Osula in a deal worth £15million in total. It will be £10million to begin with, as well as £5million in add-ons.

Now those advanced talks have been completed, with the forward undergoing a medical with the club on Monday ahead of confirmation of his arrival.

The reason for Newcastle’s Will Osula deal being held up

With that medical now completed, Newcastle are set to announce the arrival of Osula from Sheffield United. Hopefully he is able to feature in this weekend’s Sela Weekender, as Newcastle take on Girona and Stade Brestois.

However, there was a hold up when it came to finalising a deal to bring the Danish youngster to the North East.

That is according to the Chronicle, who report that the Osula deal was delayed by Newcastle’s pre-season trip to Japan, with key members of staff with the group in the Far East.

The Chronicle add that Eddie Howe also played a role in the transfer being held up, as he wanted to speak to Osula in person before he signed on the dotted line.

But Newcastle are back from Japan now, and the deal has advanced to the point that all fans are waiting for is official confirmation from the club.

Eddie Howe’s personal touch as Newcastle prepare to announce new signing

While it will not be uncommon across football, it is great to read that Howe was keen to chat with Osula face-to-face before his move was finalised.

Their relationship is going to be extremely important, with Newcastle hoping that Osula can develop into a Premier League goalscorer.

That will be down to Howe improving Osula through his coaching methods, and Osula buying into Howe’s methods and putting the work in. If they are in sync then this should prove to be a worthwhile investment.

Howe is of the belief that he can make Osula better, and that will be soon put to the test as they prepare to work together on the training pitch.
