Newcastle insiders think they’re about to make a ‘really good’ signing which could prove very clever

Newcastle United are closing in on their fifth senior signing of the summer.

While there have been a few arrivals, it has actually been a slow start in the transfer window for Newcastle United.

One of the arrivals was Lewis Hall’s loan deal becoming permanent, while the Magpies also completed free transfers for Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy. The other addition was Odysseas Vlachodimos, whose deal coincided with Elliot Anderson signing for Nottingham Forest.

Toon officials are yet to really splash the cash, but that could be about to change with less than two weeks to go before the new Premier League season kicks off.

Newcastle set to sign Will Osula

It was reported last week that Newcastle were in advanced talks over Will Osula, and the 21-year-old is now due to join the Magpies from Sheffield United for £15million.

Osula is having his medical on Monday, ahead of his transfer to Tyneside being completed.

Journalist shares how Newcastle insiders feel about Will Osula deal

Geordie Boot Boys recently spoke to Sheffield United expert Lee Connor about Osula, and he was optimistic about the forward’s chances of success at St James’ Park after showing signs of promise for the Blades.

And that is a feeling that is shared by Newcastle United insiders, according to iNews journalist Mark Douglas.

He has taken to X to provide an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Osula, writing: “William Osula medical taking place today – insiders feel it’s a really good deal for a player of big potential & good to wrap it up early in the week. Clever strategy.”

Time for Osula to get up and running before St James’ Park friendlies

Osula is only being signed because of his potential. Right now, his senior career is nothing to write home about. He did not score in the Premier League last season for Sheffield United, as they were relegated from the top flight.

Instead, it is all about what the Danish youngster can become. Toon scouts obviously see something special, believing Osula has the tools to develop into a forward that is good enough to play for a club that wants to be competing in the Champions League.

As Douglas says, it is important to get this deal wrapped up early this week. The Newcastle United squad are back from Japan, and preparing for a friendly double-header at St James’ Park.

This weekend is the second edition of the Sela Weekender, with Newcastle taking on Girona and Stade Brestois – two teams that will be in this season’s Champions League.

It will be a good test for the Magpies, and potentially an opportunity for Osula to play his first minutes in black and white. It could be an early chance to show what level he is currently at, as Eddie Howe begins to plan his squad for the first Premier League game of the season – at home to Southampton on August 17th.

Perhaps Osula could find himself on the bench that day, but that will largely depend on how soon this transfer is completed, and how well he does during his formative days of training as a Newcastle United player.
