The ‘exciting’ Newcastle United signing a reporter has been told Eddie Howe could make this month

Newcastle United are soon going to be left needing to sign a new winger.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is preparing for Miguel Almiron’s move to Atlanta United before the January transfer comes to a close.

In the meantime, the Toon boss has more problems in that position. Harvey Barnes is out injured which leaves Jacob Murphy as the only natural right-wing option once Almiron leaves.

Joelinton and Joe Willock can both play on the wing, but Howe would prefer to keep utilising them in midfield where they have impressed all season.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for many wingers in January. However, a deal is yet to be struck for anyone. Bryan Mbeumo is a long-term Newcastle target – a January move was discussed but Brentford’s reluctance and £60m asking price has made the move a hard one to fund.

Further afield, Newcastle wanted PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko. Reports now suggest that the 21-year-old will not leave the Eredivisie leaders this season.

With Newcastle fans now desperate for signings with just over a week left in the transfer window – the Magpies have been linked with another winger in the Turkish Super Lig.

Newcastle linked with move for Baris Alper Yilmaz

Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz is having a great season in Turkey thanks to his 10 goals in 19 league games.

The 24-year-old has helped Galatasaray go 16 games unbeaten as they established a six-point lead over Jose Mourninho’s Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig.

On the Market Madness podcast, Journalist Dean Jones spoke about Newcastle’s recent transfer activity.

“I spoke to someone this morning about this. I said, ‘what potentially exciting signings could we see at Newcastle coming up?’.

“One that I think we should be looking for is (Baris Alper) Yilmaz at Galatasaray, and this has been mooted already. Not hugely, but he has been linked.”

Newcastle and sporting director Paul Mitchell have prioritised signing a right-winger in January. They may have found the right fit for the team in Yilmaz.

If Newcastle signed Yilmaz, the club would certainly be landing a player who has a real eye for goal but has struggled in the assists department this season.

What Howe will like is that Yilmaz is versatile. The Turkish international can play on either wing and has even played as a right-back this season.

With Kieran Trippier’s Newcastle future still up in the air, Howe could see Yilmaz as a potential alternative for Tino Livramento if they needed someone to fill the gap.

Statistically, both Anthony Gordon and Murphy have more assists than Yilmaz. However, the Turkish winger has scored more goals than the pair combined.

Another proven goalscorer could be incredibly important for Newcastle who have struggled to find many players to find the net this season. Alexander Isak is Newcastle’s leading scorer by far this season with 15 – nine goals ahead of Gordon.
