Paul Mitchell is anticipating his first full transfer window with Newcastle United.

Newcastle’s new sporting director Paul Mitchell could be in for a busy month in his first full transfer window with the Magpies.

There is the potential for several outgoings but fans are interested to learn about any potential incoming players who can help Newcastle get back to playing European football next season.

Newcastle have been linked with PSV winger Johan Bakayoko and it looked like a move in January would materialise.

PSV agreed a deal for a winger and the thought was that he was a replacement for the 21-year-old.

The Magpies have also been linked with a goalkeeper and recent comments suggest that a January move is still possible.

Newcastle could still sign James Trafford in January

As much as Newcastle want to sign a winger, that may be out of the question.

However, in a recent Q&A with Chris Waugh of the Athletic, the feeling is that Bakayoko will be beyond Newcastle’s means this window.

PSR remains a problem for Newcastle who had to sell key assets in the summer despite Howe’s reluctance.

Toon boss Eddie Howe will be thankful that Jacob Murphy has come into form with a busy period on the way but the inevitable departure of Miguel Almiron and summer sale of Yankuba Minteh leaves Newcastle short of other options.

Newcastle want James Trafford from Burnley but Clarets boss Scott Parker wants Trafford to stay at the club while they pursue a promotion push.

In his Q&A, Waugh said that Newcastle still could sign Trafford who could cost around £20million.

A recent report also suggested that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Trafford as they look to overcome their own goalkeeper injury crisis which has left them playing former Newcastle man Fraser Forster.

Trafford signing relies on Martin Dubravka’s departure

Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka could leave Newcastle with a move to the Saudi Pro League on the cards. However, Howe doesn’t want him to leave saying a move for him while Nick Pope is injured “wouldn’t make sense”.

Not only would Dubravka’s departure mean a little help for PSR but it would give Trafford a slot in Newcastle’s first-team squad that allows him to challenge Pope for the number-one spot.

With Trafford, who was valued at £20m in the summer, only being 22, he would be the long-term replacement for Dubravka and Pope. He’s enjoying a fine season at Burnley so far having conceded just nine goals in 21 games keeping 12 clean sheets in the process.
