Newcastle United have some very exciting young players on their radar.
The Magpies brought in Rory Finneran from Blackburn Rovers during the summer, while Newcastle have also been linked with Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong.
The 18-year-old is a right-back who has been tipped to become a future England international, and Newcastle United have got their eye on him.
It is all part of the Magpies’ recruitment strategy, with Paul Mitchell aiming to change the way that the club operate in the transfer market. He was critical of the club’s previous policy, which resulted in Eddie Howe defending the signings he has made as Newcastle manager.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle will be able to sign Acheampong from Chelsea, but another Premier League teenager who the Magpies are keen on might not be available for a move to Tyneside.
Newcastle linked with Tyler Dibling
Back in 2022, Newcastle United tried to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton. He was 16-years-old at the time, with Dan Ashworth interested in bringing him to the North East after he scored a stunning hat-trick at St James’ Park in a youth game.

A move did not materialise, and now Dibling is a part of the first-team at Southampton. He has made a bright start to the Premier League campaign, and was particularly impressive against Manchester United.
Russell Martin has called Dibling a ‘special talent‘, which is why talk of interest from Newcastle is very exciting.
It has been reported that Dibling is still on Newcastle’s radar, with Southampton braced to receive interest in the 18-year-old winger.
Southampton plan to extend Dibling’s contract
Southampton know that Dibling is going to be a man in demand, which is why they now have a plan to keep him at St Mary’s.
According to Give Me Sport, Southampton are preparing to offer Dibling a new contract to extend his stay on the south coast.
They state that a new deal with improved terms is in response to the teenager’s bright start to the season.
Give Me Sport add that Dibling is likely to agree to a contract extension, having given no indication that he is interested in a move away despite multiple clubs queuing up to sign him.
As well as Newcastle, Give Me Sport state that Manchester United and Crystal Palace are also keen. It is no surprise to see Manchester United mentioned as a suitor, given Dan Ashworth’s role there.
Newcastle missed their chance to sign Dibling
Given how well he has settled into life as a Premier League player, it feels like the chance to sign Dibling has passed Newcastle by.
That will certainly be the case once he signs a new deal, as that will only see his transfer value increase massively.
While Newcastle want to sign young players with potential before they reach their optimum value, it feels like the opportunity to land Dibling has been and gone. The chance to do a deal was two years ago, when he was first on Newcastle’s radar.
However, even then might not have been the right time. He did leave Southampton to join Chelsea, only to re-sign for the Saints after failing to settle in West London. Perhaps that is an indication that a move to the North East of England might not have been right for such a young player.
Now Dibling is two years older, and it still looks like a transfer will allude Newcastle United.
