Newcastle United are closing in on a deal to sign Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, but it looks like the transfer excitement is not going to end there for Toon fans.
While it looks like Tonali is going to cost a club record fee, that will likely not be the end of Newcastle splashing the cash this summer.
As well as signing a defensive midfielder, the Magpies are also looking for a central player who can be a difference-maker in the final third.
The two candidates are James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai, and Newcastle World have provided an update about the club’s pursuit of the latter.
Newcastle and Leipzig talk about Dominik Szoboszlai transfer
According to Newcastle World, the club are in talks with RB Leipzig about signing Szoboszlai. They state that the lines of communication between the two sides are open, but it is unclear whether these talks will lead to a formal approach from the Magpies.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to St James’ Park for a while now, and has openly admitted that he could leave Leipzig during this summer’s transfer window. And if he does decide to leave, he has been advised that the Premier League is the best place for him.
The Hungary international would be another marquee signing for Newcastle, who are set to shock the footballing world with a deal for Tonali. It sounds like everything is almost in place for him to join the club, with Toon staff planning to travel to Romania so the 23-year-old can undergo a medical.
He is going to be a statement signing, and it would be incredible if he was joined by Szoboszlai.

The ‘special‘ attacking midfielder has a release clause of £60million, but that is only active for the rest of this month. Newcastle feel like that fee is too much, and would like to negotiate a cheaper price.
That is likely what talks between Newcastle and Leipzig have been centred around, and it might depend on how much the German side need to sell. They have already lost one major player this summer, with Christopher Nkunku joining Chelsea.
