Dominik Szoboszlai has left the door wide open for a move to Newcastle United this summer.

The Hungarian playmaker is being heavily linked with a move to Tyneside, with Toon scouts watching him on multiple occasions this year.

Szoboszlai has been described as Newcastle’s top target, while it has also been reported that the club have held talks with the 22-year-old’s representatives about a £60million move to St James’ Park.

He would be a marquee addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, and could prove to be a sensational signing ahead of the Magpies’ return to the Champions League.

Regardless, Szoboszlai looks set to play in Europe’s elite competition next season. That is because RB Leipzig have qualified after finishing third in the Bundesliga.

However, Champions League qualification might not be enough to keep him at Leipzig, and Szoboszlai has now admitted that he will consider any offers that come his way this summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai refuses to rule out leaving RB Leipzig

Szoboszlai has spoke to Hungarian website Index, and addressed a possible move away from RB Leipzig.

“My entire career so far has been built consciously, always reaching the next level in time, but never to a level that would be too risky to jump,” he said.

“You can fall from high, and it’s rare that someone gets one chance at the highest level of football, let alone two. All options must be considered. I dreamed of a club for myself at the age of five, another as a teenager, seeing that it is not necessarily impossible to achieve these dreams.

“If there is interest, I will consider it, not because I don’t have a good turn in Leipzig, but because I have always been interested in challenges.

“On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a coach who trusts me and teammates who accept me and also believe in me. No footballer can wish for more than that. This is quite an extra situation. At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge? I’ve never been that type!

“I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club. However, I don’t want fifteen years from now to look back on my career as if I didn’t get the most out of it.”

Door open for Newcastle

While Szoboszlai has not directly referenced interest from Newcastle, he has left the door wide open for a potential move away. If an offer comes his way this summer, he will certainly consider it. And an offer from Newcastle would surely be very appealing.

It sounds like Szoboszlai is a very ambitious man – someone who wants to ensure he gets everything possible out of his career. That is why he will consider any interest in him, as it could give him the opportunity to take his game to an even greater level.

He has already proven himself in the Bundesliga, but he does not want to have any regrets in his career. That is why a move to Newcastle could be massively appealing, as it is clear from the outside that we are a club on the up. Plenty of players have already taken the risk and moved to St James’ Park, and it has immediately paid off.

Szoboszlai will be able to see how well the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman have done, and will believe he can have the same impact.

While he is not saying he will definitely switch clubs, the door is definitely open. Now it is up to Newcastle to try and tempt him to Tyneside.
