Report: Newcastle discussing £21m bid for Zidane-like talent, Howe is a big fan

Such are the frequency of the links with various players across Europe, the trail goes relatively cold on a number of reported Newcastle targets.

Indeed, amid links with both Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Barella, Newcastle’s pursuit of Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha looked as if it had gone on the backburner somewhat.

Eddie Howe is believed to be a big fan of the 22-year-old, who has previously been compared to a certain Zinedine Zidane, albeit tempered ones.

Still, while the two Italian midfielders are perhaps more headline targets, there has been a new update on Nmecha.

Felix Nmecha price tag emerges for Newcastle

Sky Germany suggest the club have been discussing a potential bid for the midfielder, who started his career at Manchester City.

In fact, Nmecha is said to have been scouted on numerous occasions by Newcastle, most recently against Hoffenheim in May.

The report also claims the player would set Newcastle back around 25 million euros, which equates to £21.4m.

That payment would reportedly include bonus payments, making it a much cheaper option than the kind of money discussed for the likes of Barella and Tonali.

Could be the kind of move Newcastle need to make

While we can surely expect PIF to invest into strengthening team ahead of the Champions League campaign next season, money does not grow on trees for Newcastle just yet.

The likes of Craig Hope have spoken about the difficulty the club are having when it comes to dealing with potentially selling clubs with asking prices being driven high.

To that end, Newcastle might have to be more creative when it comes to making signings. Just because someone does not cost millions and millions of pounds does not mean they cannot have an impact, after all.

It’s certainly worked for the club so far…
