Harry Maguire could leave Manchester United this summer, and Stuart Pearce believes Newcastle United should make a move for the defender.
Newcastle are set to be in the market for a new central defender, with Eddie Howe eyeing a right-sided centre-back to compete with Fabian Schar for a place in the starting XI.
The Magpies have been tentatively linked with a move for Maguire, with a recent report claiming that Newcastle were monitoring his situation.
Despite his struggles, plenty of people in the game have jumped to the 30-year-old’s defence. Danny Murphy believes he is a player who Eddie Howe would appreciate, while Callum Wilson has said he would take him in his side.
But Erik ten Hag feels differently, with a report claiming that he could leave Old Trafford this summer. He needs a fresh start, and his woes continued on Thursday night. He made a mistake for Sevilla’s opening goal in the Europa League clash – although the majority of the blame lies at David De Gea’s feet.

Regardless, it feels like Maguire needs to move on. That is what TalkSPORT pundit Stuart Pearce believes, and he has named three clubs that would be ideal for the £80million defender.
Stuart Pearce thinks Newcastle should be ‘all over’ Harry Maguire
Speaking on TalkSPORT, former England Under-21 boss Pearce praised Maguire, and believes the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle should be trying to sign him ahead of next season.
“I worked with him when he was an Under-21 player, he’s a good kid,” he said.
“I think his football’s good personally. He didn’t have a good night last night, granted. But for England he’s superb.
“I don’t think he’s been awful for Man United. That’s my opinion on the issue. He’s lost his place in the team, he’s [Ten Hag] decided to go with other players when they’re available and that’s something…he [Maguire] might need a move this summer.
“If I was Aston Villa, if I was West Ham, if I was Newcastle, I would be all over Harry Maguire to get him out of Manchester United if he was available. I really would.”
Not a good fit for the Magpies
Given his age and his potentially high wage demands, a move to Newcastle just would not make sense. He is not the type of player we are going to be looking for this summer.
If Newcastle get the centre-back they want, it will be someone much younger than Maguire who can grow and develop at St James’ Park, rather than a player who is trying to rebuild his career.
There is no denying that there is a player in there. Maguire was great for Hull City, excellent for Leicester City and has never let England down. But his Man United career has turned him into a laughing stock, and he needs a move away.
Pearce thinks Newcastle should be in the conversation, but that does not feel at all likely.
