Financial Fair Play (FFP) is often talked about in conjunction with Newcastle United.
Despite the fact the club are backed by PIF’s big money, Eddie Howe has been keen to point out that Newcastle do not operate with bottomless pit of resources.
Still, they have managed to sign Sandro Tonali this summer and are reportedly on the hunt for Leicester winger Harvey Barnes.

While FFP might stand in the way of their ideal business amid a reported desire to make space on the wage bill, there could still be more incoming activity at St James’ Park.
Indeed, there are pleasing reports from The Athletic.
Newcastle could still sign an elite level player after signing Sandro Tonali
Tonali’s capture was obviously a big one.
A player leaving one of Europe’s most storied clubs to bring Champions League experience to St James’ Park is certainly a statement of intent.
Now, the report claims another player of such high profile could be signed.
They suggest there is an expectation the club will move for a second “elite-level” addition before FFP concerns mean they adopt a more “modest” approach to spending, which could even include loan deals.

It seems Newcastle might need to prioritise
If there are plans to spend big on another player before reining things in, it’ll be fascinating to see where Newcastle spend.
Howe is reportedly keen on Tino Livramento to bolster his options behind Kieran Trippier, albeit Southampton are thought to be holding out for a higher fee.
Barnes, meanwhile, is said to be another target and could cost up to £35m, with Howe supposedly eager for more end product from wide areas.
Neither of those are likely to be cheap this summer, so it’ll be interesting to see where Howe spends most if there’s only scope to significantly strengthen in one area.
