PIF intervened to block Newcastle United deal and insiders think it could be a great decision

Newcastle United owners PIF stepped in to prevent William Osula from leaving the club on deadline day.

It was a busy few hours for Newcastle United as a dramatic summer transfer window, with PIF forced into action.

After months of speculation, the Newcastle United owners finally agreed deals to sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool and sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

It remains to be seen if they were the right decisions to take. However, at least they now have clarity.

That frantic day of action almost saw Osula leave St James’ Park, too.

Indeed, Eintracht Frankfurt tried to sign Osula but he was eventually kept on as cover and has since responded in positive fashion.

The 22-year-old is now Newcastle United’s top scorer this season, bagging three goals in his six starts.

Now, some more insight has emerged.

PIF didn’t think it was worth selling William Osula this summer

According to The Daily Mail, a £30million deal was agreed between the two clubs.

It was so far advanced that the Danish U21 international was prepared to leave their camp and fly to Germany to complete the deal.

Newcastle had included a buy-back clause in the agreement, only to see Frankfurt move the goalposts.

They wanted a loan deal with an option to buy and PIF believed those terms suited Frankfurt more than Newcastle United.

Newcastle United feeling positive about William Osula now

Newcastle insiders think Osula staying could be a positive thing for the club, with Eddie Howe proving very capable of improving players.

Clearly, there’s a lot still to prove but a brace against Bradford in the Carabao Cup was a positive way to start.

With Wissa injured until at least October, the club need all the help up front they can get.

Osula is certainly providing that and while having to rely on him and Nick Woltemade is hardly ideal for Howe, it’s better than only having the one striker.

PIF took a lot of criticism this summer but perhaps this decision will be looked upon favourably.
