How Newcastle United really feel about William Osula after ‘twist of fate’

William Osula sent a statement of intent during Newcastle United’s 4-1 win over Bradford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

In bagging a brace, Osula became Newcastle United’s top scorer this season with three goals following his strike against Liverpool last month.

That’s a rather ironic twist following a summer dominated by other strikers on Tyneside.

Indeed, Eintracht Frankfurt wanted to sign Osula on deadline day but the deal eventually fell through during the closing stages of the window.

For now, the 22-year-old remains a Newcastle United player and insiders believe that could be a good thing in time.

Newcastle United think William Osula staying was a positive development

According to The Daily Mail, there is a feeling behind the scenes that the fact Osula ended up staying at the club could prove to be a positive thing going forward.

Clearly, it will take more than a brace against a League One team to ensure that is the case but there’s little doubt his goals will raise his confidence.

Osula still needs development but there certainly appears to be something with which to work for the Newcastle United manager.

Why William Osula ended up staying at Newcastle United

Frankfurt have confirmed they believed Osula would have cost too much money, although there may be more revelations to come on that.

In fact, earlier this week, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie suggested that the actual explanation as to why he didn’t depart is “another story” entirely.

“Newcastle would have accepted the offer from Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day despite their situation,” he said.

Downie added: “Had that £30million offer been slapped on the table by Frankfurt. And it wasn’t, it was pretty much withdrawn with a couple of hours to spare, so that’s another story.”

What’s done is done. It’s hard to imagine too many supporters demanding an explanation if Newcastle were to have sold Osula, but that doesn’t mean they necessarily wanted him to leave.

So far this season, he’s responded well to all the turbulence. If he can continue to build on this, perhaps a long-term future on Tyneside could be ahead of him.
