PIF club have just signed former Newcastle target for £19m after Yasir Al-Rumayyan visits Tyneside

After not making any Newcastle United signings on deadline day, PIF were splashing the cash on Monday.

The Premier League transfer window closed on Friday night with Newcastle United failing to sign Marc Guehi and Anthony Elanga, resulting in Alan Shearer questioning the likes of Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell for failing to improve Eddie Howe’s squad.

The Toon officials were then joined by Yasir Al-Rumayyan on Sunday, with the PIF chief in attendance at St James’ Park to watch Newcastle beat Tottenham Hotspur.

While it was a frustrating summer, Al-Rumayyan’s visit had nothing to do with the poor transfer window and was actually pre-planned.

But it did put a brighter spotlight on Newcastle’s failings, despite PIF’s ambitions to take the Magpies right to the top of the game.

PIF were very busy on Monday after Newcastle United disappointment

While PIF could not spend any of their money on new Newcastle signings on Friday, they were busy on Monday.

September 2nd was the final day of the Saudi Arabian transfer window, and PIF own four clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

One of those clubs is Al-Nassr, who Cristiano Ronaldo plays for.

They completed the signing of Mohamed Simakan, who was on Newcastle’s radar last month. Simakan was seen as an alternative to Marc Guehi, but is now going to play his football in Saudi Arabia.

And Al-Nassr used PIF’s money to make another interesting signing, as they completed a deal for another former Newcastle United target.

Angelo Gabriel leaves Chelsea to sign for Al-Nassr

As well as Simakan, Al-Nassr have also signed Angelo Gabriel from Chelsea.

He has cost the Saudi club £19million, after it had been reported that Chelsea wanted to sell Angelo this summer one year after his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have already cashed in on him, after they beat Newcastle United to his signature.

Before Chelsea’s interest in the teenage winger emerged, Angelo was a target for Newcastle. Steve Nickson travelled to Brazil to watch him play in 2022, while the hope was that Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton could help convince Angelo to sign for Newcastle.

In the end, Chelsea won the race to secure his signature, as Newcastle missed out on another exciting talent – just like they did with Andrey Santos and Maximo Perrone.

Now Chelsea have given up on the 19-year-old, and he has finally been signed by PIF. However, he plays for Al-Nassr rather than Newcastle United, who continue to keep their eyes peeled for the perfect winger.
